Export & Sharing
Use Export in a diagram to download PNG, SVG, PDF or JSON. Viewing and exporting require workspace membership; viewers can export without editing the diagram.
Choose a format
| Format | Use |
|---|---|
| PNG | An image for a document or presentation |
| SVG | A scalable image using the diagram's shapes and labels |
| A single-page visual export | |
| JSON | Editable diagram data, including the shared model for UML |
Visual exports use the saved diagram. Pending changes are saved first; a failed save or revision conflict stops the export. JSON can also preserve local edits for recovery before reloading.
The visual export has a white background and fits within 4096 × 4096 pixels. Very large diagrams are scaled down. A render accepts up to 500 nodes, 1000 edges and 100 lanes, with a 4 MiB request limit and an 8 MiB output limit. If the renderer is busy, retry after the current job finishes.
Export and import JSON
- Open the diagram and choose JSON in Export.
- Keep the file as a copy of the diagram and its metadata.
- To import, open a diagram of the matching mode and choose Import JSON.
- Review the imported content before saving.
UML imports must match the diagram family. Reusing a model ID with conflicting content is rejected. A UML file contains a model snapshot as well as the visual placements. Removing a placement does not delete its model element.
Historical UML versions can be downloaded from the version panel with the model snapshot captured at that time. JSON is the editable exchange format; BPMN XML and XMI import/export are not supported.
Share a diagram or document
Copy its link and send it to someone who already belongs to the workspace. The recipient must sign in with that account. Copying a link does not change access permissions.
To add someone, create an invitation from workspace settings. See Team Collaboration. A downloaded file is independent of workspace access; share that file only with its intended recipients.
The current export controls do not provide batch export, PDF/A certification, password-protected public links, expiring public links or a public embedding service.
